Mellifont Abbey offers a wide range of regular in-house and outdoor activities which all service users are encouraged to attend if they so wish. We have an activities co-ordinator who participates in arts & crafts with the residents, takes them out, involves them in organised events and also organises anything to do with making the residents time here at Mellifont fun, enjoyable and interesting. There are regular outings, church visits, cooking times, barbecues, fetes, bazaars, coffee mornings and visiting entertainers, including choirs, bands, musicians and even comedians. The home also has it’s own visiting services such as chiropodists, hairdressers, complimentary therapists and opticians.
Residents are encouraged to partake in all social events in their daily home life, although the personal wishes of individuals that would rather not be involved are of course, always respected.
We aim to provide a wide range of stimulating activities and events throughout the year and welcome suggestions from residents and their families for new things to do.
Due to our superb location we are close to many local points of interest. The home is also close to nearby shops and family pub in the village of Wookey, and is adjoined to the 12th century church of St. Matthews which can be easily accessed from our gardens.
Local regional attractions and days out include:
- Wells Cathedral
- Wells Marketplace
- Bishops Palace
- Wookey Hole
- Cheddar Gorge
- Weston Super Mare
- Bath & West Showground
- Wookey Church
We also have a variety of other attractions including good shopping locations – Clark’s Village for example – and a variety of interesting museums.
Here at Mellifont we put on different events throughout the year, including a firework night display, and anything held here on Mellifont’s premises raises money to go towards the resident’s activities fund and we also interact with the residents to motivate them to help and get involved.
